Fiber Flux @ the Valade Family Gallery
This inspiring exhibition pays homage to the innovative spirit and boundless creativity of educators across the Midwest. Hosted in conjunction with the 14th annual Midwest Fiber Art Educators Network Conference, this exhibition features artwork that offers a compelling glimpse into the innovative spirit of Fiber Art and Textile Design. From intricate weavings to avant-garde textile sculptures, each artwork reflects the educators’ commitment to pushing the limits of the field. Through their efforts, they inspire students to explore the limitless possibilities within Fiber Art and encourage a spirit of experimentation and inquiry.

Transparency @ Union Street Gallery
My piece “Their shadow, my tether” is on view in this exhibition in Chicago Heights.
“Union Street Gallery and the Surface Design Association (SDA) Illinois Chapter celebrate artwork that pushes the evolution of fiber, art, and design using color and design processes and meanings. This selection of works focuses on the theme of transparency, a characteristic that allows light or information to pass through without distortion or obstruction. In various contexts, transparency embodies honesty, visibility, and accessibility. This exhibition will be open from September 12th through October 5th, 2024. Artworks on display will include but are not limited to, quilting, macrame, embroidery, printing, crochet, knitting, felting, paper, weaving, surface design, and basketry all relating to the theme of transparency.”

The Convent Detroit
13301 Mound Road, Detroit, MI 48212
Mending the Net follows the ethos of inclusion, with the work of 50+ Fiber Club* members, a diverse cross-section of fiber artists in the Detroit metro area, offering the community an opportunity to experience a varied range of textile-based art in one thematically-linked show. In addition to open visiting hours, several workshops and events are scheduled during the show’s run, supporting the goal of developing a new access point for the wider community to engage with a wide array of creative practices and to learn more about art and design that is grounded in fiber and textile-based art forms both traditional and contemporary.

Join us for our second annual virtual celebration of Earth Day, as we host our next installment of Stamps @ Home: Sustainability from Farm to Studio.
At Stamps, we believe in the value of creative practice as an engine for cultural and social change. This virtual event provides an exciting opportunity to hear from members of the community who are exploring new technologies and sustainable dyeing practices, and using them to change the way we work in studios and celebrate our graduates. From facilitating a dye garden at U‑M’s campus farm, to creating graduation cords with homegrown materials for students working in sustainability, collaborations across campus are empowering us to engage in this innovative work.
Moderated by Professor Joseph E. Trumpey, Associate Professor of Art, Environment, and Natural Resources and Director, Sustainable Living Experience.
Speakers include:
Alex Bryan (BA LSA ‘07), Manager, U‑M Sustainable Food Program

What Feels Real: Art in the Time of Impossible Disconnect
WHAT FEELS REAL: ART IN THE TIME OF IMPOSSIBLE DISCONNECT
Presented by The Hosting
Curated by Anya Klapischak
Opening May 21 2021- May 22 2021
Tickets will become available 4.20.21 via ticketleap.com
What Feels Real: Art in the Time of Impossible Disconnect is a collection of singular spirited attempts to address a giant universal discomfort. Confronting the new normal of false realities, virtual commitments, and dumbfounding incongruities, the artists included in this group exhibition take a look at what’s left standing amongst the rubble. We are members of a conversation that aims to question, are we past the point of ever feeling human again? And more importantly- what needs to be addressed before we climb the myriad mountains of healing?
Object-Oriented Feminism Panel
The Stamps School of Art and Design will host a panel on Object-Oriented Feminism and the question of "a feminist object" posed by OOF author Irina Aristarkhova. I will be in discussion with Irina Aristarkhova and two Stamps alumnae, Emily Dibble (BFA 2016) and Kit Parks (BFA 2015), and student Riley Hanson (BFA 2017).
Is painting an object that can be objectified? Should objects give "consent"? This panel discusses these questions within the context of Object-Oriented Feminism (Minnesota University Press, 2016), a new book edited by guest speaker Katherine Behar and including a chapter by Stamps Professor Irina Aristarkhova, and artwork made by Stamps students (Hanson, Parks, Williams, Dibble).
Copies of the book will be available for purchase, signed by the authors, following the event.
